Goodness, this made me laugh. And nod my head in agreement. And laugh again.

I'm so glad. Laughing matters doesn't it?x

When I was a little girl in France, my grandmother used to close the shutters in the early morning, before it started to warm up. The house would stay dark and cool all day. Then in the evening, when it started to cool, we would open everything up and let the breeze air out the house—and sleep with all windows open. I don’t have those old fashioned shutters here in California but heavy curtains work almost as well.

Ah Vireo, thank you so much for this... I will be sure to use your advice. Though being British, the heatwave lasted just a few days and we are back to dull, grey nothing days again!

Also Certain Dri anti perspirant is an actual life saver for me. I only use it once a week now.

I did try Driclor first, but it stung so much that I had to get up one night to wash it off because I literally had tears in my eyes!

Oooh I love a recommendation: will look it up now to see if I can get it here. I paid a silly amount a few weeks ago for an all over body natural anti-perspirant and came out in the most ludicrously angry rash, so I'm definitely in the market for an alternative!!

I've been a Sweaty Betty all my life, so you can guess what happened when I entered the menopause.

I have found 2 things that really help me. The first is black cohosh, but it's classed as a hormone so you have to check if you can take it. You have to really be on top of taking it too, as it stops working immediately if you miss a day and then you have to build the effect back up again.

The other thing is cold water. I'm never going to get to the point where I can take an actual cold shower, but what I do is hold each arm & each leg under cold water at the end of my shower for 5 or 10 seconds each.

I did actually wonder if it was working when I first started doing it, but I once went out without doing it because I was in a rush. NEVER AGAIN!

Probably for the reasons you metion, I feel a bit frightened of black cohosh. Has it helped in any other ways?x
