If you’ve been reading my Commonplace posts for a while, you’ll know I have a slight obsession with collecting beautiful words and ideas before they disappear into the muddle that is my mind…
Lists of one hundred ideas. Tiny rituals. Quotations scribbled in margins. Recipes worth keeping. Puttery treats. Fragments of poetry. Things overheard. Things remembered. Small wonders that deserve a second life.
That’s exactly what a commonplace book has always been.
For centuries, writers, artists and gloriously curious women kept notebooks filled with the things they never wanted to lose. Not diaries, exactly. More like cabinets of curiosity made from paper? A place to gather quotations, recipes, observations, pressed flowers, favourite words, sketches, plans and tiny pieces of a well-lived life.
And I wanted to create something that would help you build yours…
So today I’m bringing my subscribers, The Commonplace Collection - a new monthly series of printable ephemera designed especially for your journals and commonplace books.
Print them onto ordinary paper or, even better, onto sticker paper so you can simply peel, stick and scatter them throughout your pages. Cut them out individually, tuck them into pockets, layer them into collages, decorate journal entries or keep them ready for those days when words need a little company.
